Since 1937 the Keene Lions Club has been dedicated to the cause of eyesight and hearing. Annually dozens of citizens around the Monadnock Region get the medical attention and eyewear that they otherwise would be unable to afford themselves.

Proceeds from Keene Lions fundraising events have helped to improve the Keene Senior Center and The Keene Day Care Center. Local donations have helped to supply life-saving defibrillators and defibrillator training devices to the Keene Fire Department and the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

"Camperships" for underprivileged youth in the Monadnock Region are another area where the Keene Lions support our local community. We have assisted the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and several other local camps so that one more life might be touched through these positive outdoor experiences.

Additionally, several community-enriching projects have been successfully completed thanks to The Keene Lions Club, including: swimming pools at Robin Hood Park and Wheelock Park, lighting at Alumni Field and the Keene Skate Park, playground equipment at Robin Hood Park, the Jonathan Daniels Pickleball Courts, and the Pavillion at the Keene Rec Center.

In 2015, the Lions Pavilion was constructed at the Keene Recreation Center and donated to the City of Keene.

The club takes responsibility for a stretch of highway leading into the city and schedules regular clean-up days. The Keene Lions Club also collects used eyeglasses and recycles them into service for the needy.

On a global scale, the LCIF - Lions Clubs International Foundation - meets the worldwide needs that exist beyond the reasonable capabilities of the local and regional Lions Clubs. LCIF is a public, non-profit corporation which provides millions of dollars each year to programs for the needy. The foundation has three major objectives:

  • Humanitarian Services which encompass a broad range of projects such as medical research.

  • Vocational Training which includes programs designed to help the underprivileged and disabled gain independence and increase their productivity so they can improve their economic and social well-being.

  • Major Disaster Relief to help rebuild and restore important programs and services after natural catastrophes.

When you support your local Lions Club, you are supporting more than you might think. While the majority of your support goes to help those in need right here in the Monadnock region, there is no way of knowing how many lives will be touched by the outreach of LCIF.
